Or maybe not quite singing in the rain. The rain here started early morning on Monday which meant that my group ride I was going to was cancelled…. A lot of walking and gym sessions this week.
Morning walk in the drizzle, I did a tidy 6km for a very wet walk around Mosman.
My little brother bought me an awesome new Lululemon yoga mat for Christmas and I have been very keen to use it. I finally made it to 7am yoga on Tuesday morning, it was fun! The Tuesday morning guy is a little, ah, unconventional? There are a lot of handstands and using the lounges out in the foyer and all sorts. It is a great and relaxing way to start the day though.
A short afternoon walk ended up being 5.5km so that was a good win, I didn’t get rained on at all and it was a lovely evening to be out.
Swim time! The sun was out, I was in the office where we have a beautiful big 50m pool at the nearby gym and I wanted to get my swim on. After a long week it is so good to stretch out my shoulders and back!
Walk time. Headed out for a short walk with Marcus in the afternoon. A bit of a crappy day but at least the rain wasn’t too bad, we just got a light drizzle when we were almost home.
Busy work week this week, so have planned out some good workouts to ensure I get them in (and I havent planned a massive workout for the day after our big “end of year” dinner).
Holiday time is great for workouts that’s for sure! I managed to get a number of workouts in for this week.
Strength session at the gym, this was my dead-lift weight – 40kg? phew!
I got in a nice 8km walk in the morning then 3km walk in the arvo. Love walking around our area on New Years Eve!
Who works out on New Years Day – crazy… not me!
We didn’t do much but did start this awesome ab challenge!
Morning walk, headed down to the beach to get some nice sunshine and swims. It was a nice 3.5km walk before heading down to Bowral for a lovely wedding!
We were hungover…
If I was summing up 2014 in a few words it would probably be going outside the box. There were so many things that I did differently this year that I hadn’t done before or that were a step above where I had been before. Here are some of the most popular posts of the year which really do show what a mixed bag it was.
I launched the Olive 5k in December 2013 for launch in January which has been unbelievable! I never thought I would have over 300 people participating from all around the world! The January results were one of the most viewed posts in 2014.
Running after Baby
My lovely friend Liz had the beautiful baby Kate back in February and she has been smashing her Olive5k times since coming back, so I asked her to write up some tips for new Mums coming back into running. We had so many preggo Mums in the Olive5k and I am looking forward to seeing them all back into it in 2015!
10 Things to do in Seoul, Korea
After my month in Korea, I had a few ideas of things to do in Seoul in the Winter. I was over there for work so I didn’t have a lot of flexibility but this was still a very popular post on the blog this year.
My favourite breakfast got a revamp on the blog. I took some new snaps and changed up the recipe a little bit. This post only went up in late December but it is already very popular. Good to see the hard work on my photography pays off!
Things I learnt in South Korea
I learnt a lot in South Korea, including things I didn’t think I would have learnt. I had a lovely time, but I am not sure I will be rushing into another month long stint without my Husband.
Quick and Healthy Tatziki
Something Marcus makes for us all the time was a super popular recipe on the blog. It is so easy but makes everything taste awesome.
Easy Chia Pudding
I had been eating chia pudding a few times with my bestie, but was too scared to try it myself. For fear of stuffing it up and having wasted those darned expensive little seeds.
What were your favourite posts in 2014?
If you follow me on Instagram ( go on head over, you know you want to) then you know that I am somewhat obsessed with breakfast. Eat like a King as they say. I love muesli, chia pudding, Power Porrij and anything that involves Pancakes!
So I have been eating refrigerator oats for well over 2 years now, which seems crazy and they do come depending on my travel schedule but man I love it when I get organised and have all the supplies on hand to make them! Best part? I have a few friends joining in on the fun tooIn the 2 years I have been working to perfect this recipe so I thought I should post on here what I am currently eating. I have tried to put all the measurements to equate for both metric and imperial, hope that works!
Ingredients (makes 1 serve)
1/3 cup lite (2%) milk.
1/4 cup oats (not quick oats)
1/3 cup greek yoghurt
1/2 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon fruit jam
1/4 cup frozen berries
Mix together everything except for the berries, then place the berries on top and you are done. I usually make 3 days in advance.
This runs down nutritionally like this:
So set aside 10-15 minutes on a Sunday evening and have breakfast ready to grab and go for the crazy mornings!
The Olive 5k race series for 2014 is almost over and I have some very exciting news that you can probably deduce yourself from the title of this post. The Olive 5k is back for 2015 and will hopefully be better than ever!
This year we will be using Wufoo, which will hopefully make it a little easier as you will get confirmation emails with the details of your submission and it seems to be a lot easier on my end too. If you did the Olive10k, I am using the same system.
We had 20 runners this month, not a bad turn out. Hopefully we can beat that for our last run in December.
1. Maria – 24:41
2. Nedberg – 25:50
3. Tracy T – 27:02
4. Kris – 27:13
5. De – 27:28
Lowest number of improvements this month, only two! I don’t know if it was the thanksgiving meals or the warm weather down south but hoping for some more improvements come December!
1. Tracy T – 1.52%
2. Kris – 0.24%
Awesome running everyone, now the last race starts this Saturday 20th December and runs until the 28th December (runs, see what I did there?). You need to have your runs submitted by Tuesday 30th December.
So here they are the fasties for the month:
1. Nedberg – 19:28
2. Sarah Beth – 23:12
3. M3 – 23:50
4. Tricky – 24:12
5. Nicky – 26:18
Improvements for the month:
1. M3 – 7.20%
2. Nicky – 6.02%
3. Tonya – 5.42%
4. Nedberg – 0.09%
This month was a little lagging I will be honest, was it Halloween making you miss your runs? Only 2 months left this year guys. Before it is back bigger than ever in 2015!
Next run is scheduled for the 22nd to the 30th November, so get training! Click here for the full 2014 schedule.
Despite completely not wanting to, I dragged myself (or maybe Marcus dragged me) out of bed for a lovely morning walk around the point. Quite the regular walkers we are becoming, it is a good way to start the morning, particularly on a Monday and particularly when we don’t get home until 7/7:30 after work or our evening workouts.
Thunderstorms and run club are never a great combination, so I headed to the gym for a workout instead. I did a strength workout that was developed for me. We apparently get a workout “program” done by the gym instructor guys once a month included in our membership. I’m getting pretty sick of seeing this though….
Ride to work day, so what else would I do? Go for a run…. It was terrible weather in Sydney. It cleared up well in the afternoon/evening for a nice run though! The calories aren’t right, my garmin was set on bike ride – oops!
Cycle time! I was excited about this all week, another ride with Liz and Decs joined us today. We hit up a few laps at Centennial Park again, not too many so we don’t get too tired before Spring Cycle on Sunday. It was freezing but fun!
I am so thrilled to announce that there will be an Olive 10k virtual race coming in October! You will have the entire month to do the race and I am going to be trialing a new system of running the races too!
So for this one, you will be able to take the whole month to do your run – the whole of October!
What to do? Jump on over to the Olive 10k page to see all the details!
