After our first baseball game in Boston with the Red Sox, when we arrived in Phoenix we were definitely keen to see some more games. Off to the Diamondbacks we went with the family friends that we were staying with. Wow, what a completely different experience at the stadium! There was not nearly as many people walking around selling things, the stadium was air conditioned and it was huge! It would be a hard sell to get people to go to Baseball games during the Arizona summer without air conditioning!
Unfortunately this was the best photo we have, sorry it is blurry, enjoying our third baseball game of the trip. I reliase there is no better time than now to explain exactly how we know Carl and Carolyn. You see they came to Australia when Marcus was 1 and he was wandering around a restaurant chatting to people near him and his parents got to talking with a lovely couple from Phoenix! They came back to Australia about 7 years ago and I met them for the first time. We went to see them in 2008 when we were in the USA and we haven't seen them since then so it was great to spend some time with them, even though it was only 3 days.
The next day in Phoenix was spent shopping for golf clubs in Scottsdale with Carl and Carolyn. Clearly the golf clubs weren't for me. However, it was a riveting day that I will spare you the details of except for the amazing meal that we had that night. Carolyn cooked us up a home cooked meal and it was exactly what we needed and wanted after almost 2 weeks of eating out.
The Sunday was our last full day in Phoenix before we flew to California and we had bought tickets to our first NFL game. Before the game we were getting a little worried as forecasts had the weather sitting at 45 degrees and the game was at 1pm - the heat of the day! When we arrived in Phoenix we were relieved to hear that the stadium was air conditioned. Many people actually had cardigans and jumpers they brought in with them (in a clear bag of course).
We saw The Arizona Cardinals play the Detroit Lions. Anyone would think we were Detroit fans, we saw them in Boston and in Phoenix.
That night we headed out for one last dinner with Carl and Carolyn for some delicious mexican, best mexican I have ever had is in Arizona. Although of course, I have never been to Mexico (unless you count the 30 minutes we were there when I was a kid before Mum yelled at Dad when she realised the hire car wasn't allowed to go into Mexico).
