Now that it is getting lighter in Sydney and we have Daylight Savings (Summer time) just around the corner, I won't be doing much dark running but all you Northern Hemisphere kids may like to know what I have learnt in the past few months.
I actually remembered a great post by Run Janelle Run that you might like to check out on some of the things she wears in North Carolina for dark runs.
Now on what I wear, this is a headlamp similar to mine. I bought it at a local hardware shop for $10. Yes, I need to take the batteries out when I am not wearing it but it wasn't worth it for me to pay the $100+ for a professional running one. This does the job just fine and I really don't have any ambitions to do any of those long overnight treks.
Light clothes are a big one. They are easy enough to pick up, the brighter the better. This neon trend is really good for safety at night. It is a little difficult to buy anything other than dark colours particularly for the warmer layers, but persevere becuase you are so much easier to see!
This pic is from a while (and about 8kg) ago, but my friends are definitely already on the bright colours bandwagon!
Don't forget that white totally counts as a bright colour when at night!
I need to take some pictures of my latest running gear. These pictures are far too old for my liking!
