We were both quite conscious of making sure we ate normal meals and ate enough fruit and vegetables while we were away. I tend to get quite quesy from jet lag so I wanted to try and eliminate much of that by sticking with a similar diet. Some of the things we tried in order to keep my stomach in check and keep off the pesky holiday kilos were:
Always eating breakfast, whether it was a banana or a delicious yoghurt parfait, we always were sure to get something in our stomachs first thing. Marcus can usually go without but I become one grumpy traveller without my morning meal.
Halving meals for dinner. In general lunch meals were a little smaller and we were spending a lot of time walking around so it was worth it to eat a bigger lunch and cut down on dinner. Then again, this salmon dish I wasn't sharing so we didn't always follow that rule!
Have a treat: there were certain treats that I definitely wanted to try. Like a cupcake from Georgetown Cupcakes and Cold Stone cake batter icecream. I have a massive sweet tooth! I had them, but just not every day. We also shared an icecream rather than getting one each which was a good idea because it was basically a bucket of icecream anyway!
Get a few workouts in - Going for a run through Central Park and around Disneyland was awesome. Although we were a bit slower than usual it was still good to get a sweat session on and explore the city at the same time.
How do you stay healthy when you are away? Any good tips to help some weary travelers? These definitely worked for me. I have ended up coming home 1.5kg (3.3lbs) lighter than when I left, which has never happened before on holidays.
