I found it a lot easier to just use what you already own if you are running along by yourself, it is when you start chatting to everyone else in run club and they have the latest Garmin, or a great new rain jacket I find myself thinking that I need all those things. Although the phrase "all the gear and no idea" also springs to mind, whatever.
Some of the gear I have partaken in now that I have joined a running club which have actually really been fun to run with are:
Garmin Forerunner 410:
After running a little too much with my iPhone and realising it really wasn't making the cut. I knew I wanted to get a Garmin after previously owning the FR 305, but I really had no idea which one I wanted to get as they all looked virtually the same. I asked a lot of friends what they had and what they liked/disliked about it and ended up deciding on the Forerunner 210 after reading all the reviews on DC Rainmaker. So I went out and started researching the best price I could get and I ended up with a price of $247.50 at Rebel Sport using their price match guarantee. However, wouldn't you know it when I went in there they had the FR410 on special for $249! So I immediately got out my phone to check the review of the FR410 and tried to remember the advantages and disadvantages and all was good, so I made a rash decision to go ahead with the 410 for such a great price! Which I have now learnt is because it was recently discontinued, oh well.
I bought it while I was down in Melbourne and pouring with rain so I ended up heading out for a short run the next day and I have worn it on almost every run since then. Even some walks to compare my pace and the track accuracy.
Nike Vapor Running Jacket
This one didn't get a real workout until Monday night where it was absolutely throwing it down for run club and I felt very hard core even turning up. It definitely did its job though it kept me reasonably dry and definitely warm enough and I managed to feel ridiculously hard core running in the rain. It has a hood, but it really looks a little weird on my head, as do a lot of things.
*I have no affiliation with either Nike, Rebel, Garmin. I just think people should know about great products.
