I have sold my car and we are now officially a one car family. Until that is we decide that we can't do it anymore and go out and buy me a new car. My role requires me to visit different hospitals around Australia, so I have a car allowance included in my salary. However, my husband's car spends way more time in the garage than it does out and about so we have decided to try the one car thing for a while and see how we go!
Saturday mornings will likely be me driving Mr Olive to golf, or me walking to wherever I want to go. Sundays are usually our together days, we might go for a walk, some shopping, see our friends, laze about. So our only day each week that we need 2 cars is on Saturday. I really think that is a little bit of a waste.
Although, I like having my car.
I liked that I could just jump in and go anywhere, If I was home alone and bored I could pop over to my friends house, or down to the beach or anywhere... without forward planning!
I thought a solution could be quite simple - a bike! Of course, I could ride along without a care in the world, fitting in my exercise with my need to travel conveniently on wheels. I saw myself looking just like this
So I went out to my parents and borrowed my Mum's bike on the weekend, it didnt go well. I ended up with a cracked gear shaft after only 1 lap up the street, I couldnt even ride it back. Oops, sorry Mum.
Are you a one car family? Any tips to help us cope and not spend thousands of dollars for some convenience on a Saturday?
