I have a new hobby! Finally, I have found a great hobby that I can do virtually any time of the day and that actually challenges me without challenging my jeans to do up (baking turns out to be quite a delicious hobby).
I have my very own sewing machine and I am prepared to use it. So far I have almost finished my first dress - ambitious first project some would say, but not me and most definitely not my dress-making teacher. I thought ahead and decided to sign up for a dress-making course at community college. I bought a pattern, some beautiful fabric and I was away. It took me nearly 3 weeks to cut out my pattern but you have to start somewhere and now that I know how I will be able to cut with ease now.
It has however lead me to looking at the clothes people are wearing, particularly in the office, and thinking to myself "I could make that" and I totally could!
So, now I just need to narrow it down to what I am going to make next? My top contenders are:
Herringbone pencil skirt This one would be amazing, but presumably difficult to fit correctly? Has anyone made a pencil skirt before?
As you are probably aware by now, I am doing the Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation. I am now into week 3 of the program and I am really enjoying it. Its sometimes a bit crummy getting up when its still dark to get to the gym... every morning! Still, I am jumping out of bed and racing to get dressed before I actually realise its still night time.
In this weeks video, Michelle spoke about how week 3 is traditionally the hardest. The initial fun and exciting aspect program has lost its shine but there is still 9 weeks left to go. Im tired and sore from training and for the most part just want a slice of cheesecake and a nap. Im not though, I am pushing through and straight past the lolly jars at work that are calling my name.
One thing that Michelle spoke about was if she had a magic wand and put me at my goal weight - what would that achieve? I wouldn't know the hard work it takes to stay there and I would be back at that lolly jar before I know it.
Then again, I was speaking to another seasoned 12WBTer (it's a word) and she has been working hard for 18 months and would love to get her hands on that wand!
If week 3 is the hardest though, I can totally handle this - bring on the rest of the 9 weeks!
Mostly, my burpie relationship is one of hate except for that time immediately after completing a round of 75 burpies, then I love them when I look down at my heart rate monitor and I have burnt 200 calories in no time at all. Also, they are OVER.
Also - Burpees/Burpies? Anyone shed any light here?
Most people tend to be in one corner or the other on this situation - can you listen to music while you are working or studying? I used to be firmly in the no, not a chance, never corner. I would study and work in ideally complete silence. Then I started working in a rather noisy office environment without a quiet office policy and found myself incredibly distracted by all the noise. So, like many others in the office, I have turned to listening to music on my phone. iPhones are great like that!
One thing I must say is that I absolutely cannot listen to anything top 40 or too up beat, because I find myself singing along and so that is not only not good for my colleagues, but doesnt really help with my work. I find some of my most productive work is actually done listening to Bach. I have one classical album that I bought years ago to help with my study at uni and it honestly all sounds the same to me so I can use it to block out the distracting noise of chatter, but the music itself keeps me focused on work or study.
This did however get me thinking and I did some research and apparently introverts are more likely to be more productive with the less stimulation from their environment, where extroverts are better with a higher level of stimulation. However, the same study also showed this:
Furnham & Bradley (1997) showed that people who found music distracting while working are less likely to work with the radio on. Source
Listening to music when I am running or exercising however, that is a whole different story!
Week 1 was only actually 4 days for us, but it is done and dusted. I did all the workouts and stuck to the plan 100%, so I was quite excited to see how I went on the scales on Wednesday, score - 1.6kg lost! Not bad.
Saturday was also my Super Saturday Session, I was incredibly dissappointed. In the sessions thus far I was able to burn 400-500 calories easily, especially in the cardio ones. However the prescribed session for Saturday? 180 calories and 17 minutes 30 seconds. So an hour walk/jog plus 15 minutes on the spin bike got me over the line.
The meals were getting a little bland for me, mainly because I dont like chilli or a lot of ginger, so I had just been leaving that out. Sunday night we bit the bullet and bought a tube of each! Dont get too excited they are still mild but they definitely made our meal much more exciting!
Goals for this week? Meal planning, morning workouts and increasing my pathetic wall sit time.
My jeans are starting to get a little tight, and unfortunately all that post-wedding "I no longer have a wedding dress to fit into" cooking is coming back and biting me in the ass. So I am joining a few thousand others in an effort to kick a few kilo's off my backside and joining Michelle Bridges 12 week body transformation. I have joined the facebook crew, I have traded in my Garmin for a Polar heart rate monitor and I am ready to pump it up with no event in mind.
The Half-marathon took everything out of me, I was a jittery mess for a month before, my legs were aching every day and night from the running that they just weren't used to and I actually cried on a run when my right calf refused to release from the cramp it was in. It took that much for me to realise that I am in no way shape or form a long distance runner. 10km is a fun distance for me, something I can enjoy and actually attempt to beat records in.
The 12WBT to those in the know is based on eating 1200 calories every day, burning 500 calories on weekdays and 1000 calories in a super Saturday session. The most important part is that it means that I am not specifically training for something and being incredibly stressed about the actual event. I am just going to enjoy a good body combat class, some great sessions with Tonic Training and some bush walks, runs, or sand runs on the weekend.
One thing that I quite enjoy is the motto of the program: JFDI (Just F-ing do it). I need to get me a visor like Michelle:
Program officially started last Monday, but we were on holidays so decided to postpone to Thursday when we got back. I started the exercise program a few weeks ago, but the assigned programs were released on Thursday so while we were on holidays we did the workouts each day. They are really easy to do especially with the great options of gym machines, outdoors, classes or at home.
Look forward to hearing a lot more about some great recipes and workouts for the next 12 weeks!
It has finally started to get really cold here and I am finding myself lusting after some seriously fun jackets and coats as I am shivering my way around Sydney. I recently purchased myself a beautiful brown leather jacket, as seen here. Problem is, I have been wearing it religiously and im getting a little bored with it.
Now it never gets really cold here in Sydney, so I just need some light jackets (let's be honest they are more like cardigans) to wear around mainly to work, if it is below 10 degrees (50F) I am not going outside!! So, I let my fingers do the walking and found some amazing jackets online:
Then again, I will be spending quite some time in Melbourne this winter, so maybe I need something a little heavier. There is a Marc's store that I pass on almost all of my run tracks and I have found myself wishing I was snugged up in one of these beautiful coats:
I am an avid housewife who is discovering her new found love for all things running, cycling, cooking, travelling and fashion. My Garmin is my new best friend and I am enjoying every minute of every day and I hope you join in for the fun!
