I was in Adelaide this week during a particularly hot few days and found myself at 4:30pm after a long day (starting at 5:30am) ready to run. I shortly realised that my favourite run along the river would not be cutting it because I was burning up just waiting for my taxi back to the hotel.
Once I was changed and ready to run, I headed down to the hotel gym to attempt to punch out 8km inside. That would be almost an hour on the treadmill for me. I don't recall ever doing more than 20 minutes. If I am going to run, I want to run outside, where there are dogs, people, birds and all manner of other things to distract me from the fact that I am running. I am also very visual - ok, lets go fast until that tree, then we can slow down. Yes, I treat my brain and my body as two separate yet equally important people when I am running.
Then I forgot about my new best friend....

So I am more than prepared for the opposite extreme this week when I will be braving the brisk mornings in New Jersey to try and fit in a run!
