So, considering that I no longer have a wedding or studying for a Masters degree I thought I needed something to occupy my time so why not train for a half-marathon. The marathon is just a little too long for me and I know that I couldn't just rock up at the start line of a 21km race without training. So, that leads me to training for a half-marathon.
My training so far includes reading a book entitled " The Non-runners guide to marathon training" by Dawn Dais and originally I was quite keen on her training schedule, with or without the warning of chaffing, until I realised that her marathon training allowed her to finish her marathon in over 8 hours. Not ideal... That would have me on track for a 4 hour half marathon time, ie 5km/hr speed. I can walk for over 2 hours at 6km/hr (or 10min/km pace). Hence, honestly this would be a training guide to walk a half-marathon, not what I had in mind.
A friend of mine just completed her first ironman and is doing her second in a few weeks and she is setting me up a training program, which firstly scares me a little but I am also excited! My previous longest run is 10km, in a PB of 1 hour and 5 minutes so I think I should be good to aim for a time under 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Anyone else doing a half or full marathon in 2012?
